Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0318590A1] The process comprises reacting hydrogen with a metal halide-such as FeCl2, CoCl2, NiCl2 etc.-vapour, while an active gas is being supplied into the reaction zone. The active gas should have a higher reactivity with the metal halide vapour than with the hydrogen gas. The amt. of the supplied active gas is specified to be 0.001-10.0 vol.% of the supplied hydrogen gas. The active gas is supplied in a mixt. with the hydrogen gas. Hydrogen gas must continue to be introduced into the reaction zone immediately after reacting the active gas with the metal halide vapour. The active gas can be the reducing gas SH2 or the oxidising gas oxygen gas.
