[origin: EP0318646A2] The invention relates to a method and an apparatus for mixing extinguishing water with a foaming or wetting agent in order to generate a water/foam mixture for fire-extinguishing purposes. In order for the suction jet pump to adjust automatically, within a predetermined range, to the differing throughputs and pressures at the consumer end, and hence to the changed circumstances, the cross- sections of the propulsion nozzle and the collecting nozzle are of variable design. In order that the quantity of foaming agent aspirated should also remain constant, a Venturi pipe is fitted upstream and/or downstream of the suction jet pump, its effective pressure being proportional and hence suitable for adapting the discharge cross- section of the foaming agent to the throughput of fire-extinguishing water. <IMAGE>
