[origin: EP0318731A1] The cushion, mat, mattress or the like has an elastic insert (1), a covering (2; 2', 2"), which surrounds said insert and is made of a material which is impervious to air, and an air closure of the cushion interior. Whilst maintaining the functional advantages of such a cushion, it is to be simplified both in manufacture and in handling. For this purpose, provision is made for the insert (1) to be compressed to a fraction (b) of the thickness (a) which it has in the unstressed state, for the covering (2; 2', 2") to rest essentially on the insert and, without the use of a valve, to form the air closure of the cushion interior merely by its material on all sides.
