Bei der Wirkware bestehen die in Längsrichtung angeordneten durch Masche und Schlinge miteinander verbundenen Fäden (1,2) aus anorganischem Material, z.B. aus Glas. Die Wirkware wird mit zwei Legeschienen gelegt, wobei die erste Legeschiene abwechslungsweise Masche und Schlinge und die zweite Legeschiene gleichzeitig im gegenteiligen Rhythmus legt.
