Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0320681A2] An upper cooling and connecting element with mutually spaced projections is attached to a starter bar head for insertion into the mould of a steel band casting machine. To avoid shrinkage cracks in the start of the cast band, the cooling and connecting element (9a, 9b, 9c) is divided by contraction joints (18) between at least two projections (13). The contraction joints are sealed off against the melt. <IMAGE>
