A grinding wheel (10) is provided with a rotating machining surface (30, 31) made of an abrasive material and is provided with a central location opening with a metallic location surface. In order to increase the mechanical stability of the grinding wheel and thus to make possible in particular external cylindrical grinding with an extremely high rate of metal removal, the grinding wheel (10) is designed as a metal wheel (16) and is provided at its periphery with a narrow border (13) of abrasive material. <IMAGE>

Eine Schleifscheibe (10) ist mit einer umlaufenden Bearbeitungsfläche (30, 31) aus einem Schleifmaterial und mit einer zentrischen Aufnahmeöffnung mit metallischer Aufnahmefläche versehen. Um die mechanische Stabilität der Schleifscheibe zu erhöhen und damit insbesondere ein Außenrundschleifen mit extrem hohen Zeitspanungsvolumina zu ermöglichen, ist die Schleifscheibe (10) als Metallscheibe (16) ausgebildet und an ihrem Umfang mit einem schmalen Rand (13) aus Schleifmaterial versehen.
