In order to form in as constructionally simple a manner as possible a laying machine for laying-out a fabric web with a fabric-web guide, which draws the fabric web from a fabric roll and lays it out as a fabric layer, comprising a fabric advance device providing fabric web corresponding to the laying machine speed, and with a strain relief control, it is proposed that the fabric web loop is arranged between the fabric advance device and the laid-out fabric layer, that the fabric web loop is formed by a bend of a free-falling fabric web piece in a direction running transversely to the direction of fall and that the scanning barrier detects a change of an arc length of the bend via a displacement of the free-hanging bend. <IMAGE>

Um eine Legemaschine zum Auslegen einer Stoffbahn (20) mit einer die Stoffbahn von einer Stoffrolle (18) abziehenden und als Stofflage auslegenden Stoffbahnführung, umfassend eine Stoffbahn entsprechend der Legemaschinengeschwindigkeit vorlegende Stoffvorgabeeinrichtung, und mit einer Zugentlastungssteuerung konstruktiv möglichst einfach zu gestalten, wird vorgeschlagen, daß die Stoffbahnschlaufe (48) zwischen der Stoffvorgabeeinrichtung (30) und der ausgelegten Stofflage (34) angeordnet ist, daß die Stoffbahnschlaufe durch eine Umbiegung eines freifallenden Stoffbahnstücks (20') in eine quer zur Fallrichtung verlaufende Richtung gebildet ist und daß die Abtastschranke (56, 58) eine Veränderung einer Bogenlänge der Umbiegung (48) über eine Verlagerung der freihängenden Umbiegung (48) erfaßt.
