[origin: EP0322645A2] In order to form in as constructionally simple a manner as possible a laying machine for laying-out a fabric web with a fabric-web guide, which draws the fabric web from a fabric roll and lays it out as a fabric layer, comprising a fabric advance device providing fabric web corresponding to the laying machine speed, and with a strain relief control, it is proposed that the fabric web loop is arranged between the fabric advance device and the laid-out fabric layer, that the fabric web loop is formed by a bend of a free-falling fabric web piece in a direction running transversely to the direction of fall and that the scanning barrier detects a change of an arc length of the bend via a displacement of the free-hanging bend. <IMAGE>
