[origin: JPH01295801A] PURPOSE: To enable bleaching of a cork article to an adequately high degree of whiteness and drying of the cork article with ultraviolet radiation after treating and impregnating the cork article with an aqueous solution of hydrogen peroxide. CONSTITUTION: An aqueous alkaline solution of hydrogen peroxide contains 30-150 g of H2 O2 , 2-20 g of sodium hydroxide or 5-50 g of sodium carbonate and the pH value of the solution is set within the range of 9.0-10.5. This hydrogen peroxide solution contains, for example, 2-50 g/l of sodium silicate as a stabilizer for preventing the early decomposition of the solution from occurring. After soaking the cork article in a bleaching bath consisting of the hydrogen peroxide solution for a specified time, the cork article is dried by emission of the ultraviolet rays with a wavelength of 200-350 nm in such a state that the solution contains 0.05 g or more of H2 O2 per 100 g of cork.
