[origin: EP0323883A1] A swimming pool cleaner which has a head (10,12) mounted on wheels (76,78,80), a suction passage (18) through the head, a turbine (24) which is mounted in the suction passage, and a propellor (36) which is driven by the turbine (24) and which propels the head. A rudder (54), which is oscillated via a gear train (44) driven by the turbine (24), is used to vary the direction of movement of the head.
