[origin: EP0262574A1] An ammunition round comprises a bullet or slug (1) and a sabot (4) mounted on the rear of the slug (1) for sealing expanding gas from the firing of the round within the barrel behind the bullet or slug (1). The bullet or slug (1) has a rearwardly tapered conical protrusion (2) and the sabot has a complementary conically tapered recess (5), the conical angle ( beta ) of the recess (5) in the sabot (4) being greater than the conical angle ( alpha ) of the protrusion (2) on the bullet or slug (1).

Une cartouche comporte une balle ou un plomb cylindrique-conique (1) et un sabot (4) fixé sur l'arrière du plomb (1) pour assurer l'étanchéité contre le gaz qui se détend à la suite de la mise à feu de la cartouche à l'intérieur du canon derrière la balle ou le plomb (1). La balle ou le plomb (1) présentent une saillie (2) conique à section décroissante vers l'arrière, et le sabot présente un évidement (5) complémentaire à dépouille conique, l'angle conique (beta) de l'évidement (5) ménagé dans le sabot (4) étant supérieur à l'angle conique (alpha) de la saillie (2) ménagée sur la balle ou le plomb (1).
