[origin: WO8900121A1] A rescue device for use in traversing a cable (11) of an aerial transportion system, the rescue device including a frame (16) carried by a pair of wheels (18) for movement along the cable, the frame including a portion (22) extending below the cable, and a lever arm (34) having opposite ends and being pivotally connected (36) intermediate its opposite ends to the downwardly extending poriton of the frame. A suspension device such as a harness (46) is attached to one end (48) of the lever arm and is intended to support the rescuer. A brake pad or shoe (60) is mounted on the opposite end (62) of the lever arm and is positioned below the cable. The weight of the rescuer on the harness functions to cause engagement of the brake pad with the cable. A brake control lever (70) projects from the end of the lever arm supporting the brake pad and is pulled downwardly by the rescuer to control the force of the brake pad against the cable.

Un dispositif de sauvetage, destiné à être utilisé sur le parcours de traversée d'un câble (11) faisant partie d'un système de transport suspendu, comprend une structure (16) portée par une paire de roues (18) de façon à pouvoir se déplacer le long du câble, ladite structure comportant une partie (22) s'étendant sous le câble. Ledit dispositif comprend en outre un bras de levier (34) pourvu d'extrémités opposées et reliées de façon pivotante en un point (36) situé entre ses extrémités opposées à la partie s'étendant vers le bas de la structure. Un dispositif de suspension, tel qu'un harnais (46) est fixé à l'une des extrémités (48) du bras de levier et sert à supporter le sauveteur. Un galet ou un patin de freinage (60) est monté sur l'extrémité opposée (62) du bras de levier et est situé sous le câble. Le poids du sauveteur qui s'exerce sur le harnais fonctionne de façon à permettre l'engagement du galet de freinage avec le câble. Un levier de commande de frein (70) s'étend à partir de l'extrémité du bras de levier supportant le galet de freinage et est tiré vers le bas par le sauveteur, qui peut ainsi commander la force exercée par le galet de freinage sur le câble.
