[origin: EP0326003A2] The invention relates to a machine for making spun or twisted yarns, with a number of work units which are distributed over the length of the machine and which are respectively driven in particular zones by means of tangential belts 2 of no tooth setting, from a plurality of drive devices 3, 4 distributed on the machine, there being a tangential belt which runs over the entire region of the machine equipped with work units and which is driven by a plurality of drive devices of the machine. According to the invention, the drive devices are offset relative to the longitudinal axis of the machine and each comprises a driving pulley 4 connected to an electric motor 3 and two deflecting pulleys 5 and 6 which deflect the tangential belt 2 from its run along a row of wharves 1 of the work units to the associated driving pulleys 4 and back from these to its run along the same row of wharves 1. <IMAGE>
