[origin: EP0326479A1] This detector includes a sealed chamber (4) containing a gas which can be ionised by X-rays having passed through an organ or an object. This chamber comprises on a front face, an X-ray inlet window (5), and contains an X-ray detection unit (11). Connection means (27, 28, 29, 32, 33) pass through a rear face (9) of the chamber in order to connect the detection means with measurement (14) and supply (15, 16) means outside the chamber. The detection means comprise electrodes (19) and a polarising plate (18) which are separated by a radiation-transparent insulating spacer (3). According to the invention this spacer has the shape of a frame. This frame bears, on the one hand, on the polarising plate (18) and, on the other hand, on conductive strips (22, 24) brought to the same reference potential (16) as that of the electrodes. <??>Application to X-ray tomography. <IMAGE>
