The object of the invention here is to keep the heating device of the carbonisation installation wholly or largely free of corrosion and to allow gases polluting the environment to be converted in the postcombustion chamber into gases of low pollutant content, which is to be achieved by constructionally simple means. For this purpose, it is provided that the heating gas of the carbonisation device (1) is passed in a closed circulation through the carbonisation device and a cylindrical heat exchanger (12) of the postcombustion chamber (8), which heat exchanger is provided on the inside with such a lining (17) that the temperature of the burner gases in the exchanger (12) is 1200 DEG C or higher over a residence time of the gases of from 1.0 - 5.0 seconds. <IMAGE>
