Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0327014A2] The convex housing (1) of the exterior light fixture is covered at its open underside by a detachably mounted transparent cover (2), the required kerf being in the horizontal plane. In order to form the kerf in a manner proof against spray and without an additional seal of special material, there is arranged on the housing (1) in the region of the kerf a circumferential rim formation (1a) which is inclined obliquely outwards, serves as the actual sealing surface (1b), and has an annular bead (1c), which is joined towards the outer rim and arches upwards, and which is joined by a free-standing rim (1d), which is directed downwards and engages over the rim (2a) of the cover (2). For its part, the cover (2) is provided circumferentially with a flange (2a) which is matched to the inclination of the sealing surface (1b) and bears directly against it. However, below the annular bead (1c) the flange (2a) is arranged in a freely standing manner and reaches up to a small gap (3a), also provided for tolerance compensation, virtually as far as the rim (1d). This results in formation below the annular bead (1c) of a prechamber (3) for spray that has gained access, which can settle therein and flow off once again through the gap (3a). In the case of a circular rim formation of the housing (1) and a round cover (2), the latter is preferably held by a plurality of bow-shaped wire springs (4) arranged in the housing. <IMAGE>
