Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0329060A2] In order to be able to cover a wall (1) or ceiling with panels (3), it is normally necessary to attach a supporting device to the wall. The supporting device consists of a plurality of supports (2) attached parallel to one another in the case of rectangular panels. They can be fastened to the wall (1) or ceiling directly or via intermediate members, for example holders (37). On each support, two mutually facing, lateral ends of adjacent panels are held and supported at the rear. A plurality of such rows are situated above one another in a wall covering. Each panel is mounted with preferably two supporting elements (5) gripping round its bottom end and two holding elements (6) embracing its top end. To prevent lateral displacement in the panel plane, the pressing against the holding tabs (25 and 26) of the elements (5 and 6) is effected by means of the resilient force of at least one pressing element (27) on each lateral vertical edge. Each support (2) has two holding grooves (12 and 13) for the holding and supporting elements (6, 5), said grooves being arranged laterally spaced apart, extending in the longitudinal direction of the support and being open towards the panel plane. The holding element (6) is fastened to the base of the groove for example by means of a rivet. The supporting element (5) is supported thereon with its downwardly pointing fastening leg (19). In the final assembly, the latter is directly in front of the upwardly projecting fastening leg (7) of the holding element (6). The entire thickness of the two fastening legs is so dimensioned that they fit, both in the horizontal direction (in the case of a wall covering) and perpendicularly to the wall, exactly into the groove, which is preferably C-shaped in cross-section. The weight of each panel is borne by the rivet of the holding element (6), whereas forces directed transversely to the wall plane can be absorbed by the two longitudinal strips (15 and 16). <IMAGE>
