Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0329814A1] In the device for the longitudinal folding of a web (D) is arranged a plough-type folding head (1) whose working width can be infinitely varied and which is provided with a suspension system which can be displaced transversely with respect to the web running direction. The folding line and the working width of said folding head, and thus the distance between two folds during wallet folding, can be controlled by means of two actuators (5.1, 5.2) driven by servo elements (6.1, 6.2), position transmitters (31.1., 31.2) supplying signals relating to the values of the position coordinates. The control for adjusting the folding head transversely to the web running direction is supplemented by a control for adjusting the unwinding angle essential for plough folding by the distances between lying roller (8), leaching roller (3) and folding head being adjustable. The data on the adjusted positions can, on the one hand, be monitored in the process and can be stored for pre-adjustment purposes on the other hand. For the purpose of forming improved folding edges, a closing device (30) which can be incorporated in the adjustment is arranged upstream of the outlet roller. The adjustment control possibilities, in particular in relation to the folding head which can be narrowed or widened without gaps, can also be used for guiding the folding register. All the actuators can be employed in the overshot and undershot working position of the plough folder. <IMAGE>
