Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0331039A2] The device comprises an illuminator (12-14) and an optical system (16) to create an optical image of the card web (1) on an array of photosensors (17). Provided the sensor area is sufficiently small, neps create a typical time-course in the illumination intensity, which can be utilised to detect them. The neps are not removed, but their frequency provides indications of possible deficiencies of the carding machine or of the upstream fibre-opening machines. <IMAGE>
