[origin: EP0331942A1] The applicator (10) has holding means (6, 7, 8) for interchangeably receiving cartridges (30), for example double cartridges for two-component systems. Extendable tappets (4) driven by means of auxiliary energy (for example pneumatically, electromotively etc) serve for advancing the conveying pistons (32) in the cartridge cylinders (31) when expelling the contents of the cartridge. To control the auxiliary energy, a valve (20, 21) is installed in the device handle (3) so as to be actuable using the trigger lever (12). If the tappets (4) are extended without a cartridge (30) being inserted in the application position, this could result in injuries or damage to property. In order to prevent this, a cartridge sensing bar (13) is provided, for example displaceably guided in the release lever (12) and provided with a locking cam (18). Without a cartridge (30) inserted, the sensing bar (13) is held in the locking position by means of a spring (15) and the locking cam (18) is located opposite a stop (9), by which means the actuation of the release lever (12) and thus the extension of the tappet (4) is blocked. The sensing bar (13) is held in the release position (below stop surface 11) by a cartridge (30) correctly inserted in the application position, as a result of which the locking cam (18) is released and the triggering of the tappet drive is possible.
