[origin: WO8908600A1] A process serves to control a device for storing and forwarding yarn, in particular for a loom, on the storage surface of which the yarn can be wound in coils and drawn off by a consumer. A control unit for a take-up drive adjusts the take-up speed in function of the use at least by means of the actual member of coils on the stonage surface, in order to match the actual value to a predetermined target value. The target value is varied at least during changes in the take-up speed, in order to obtain an optimally compact supply of yarn on the storage surface. In a device for storing and forwarding yarn by this process, the control unit (8) is associated with a generator of reference variables (18) for the target values (nV), which vary in a predetermined manner, whereby the target values (nV) vary continously.
