[origin: EP0333280A1] The invention relates to a device for cutting defective cigarettes in the longitudinal direction and reclaiming the tobacco, and for separating and removing the paper and the residual filters. The device is provided with a drum (17) which is moved in a rotary manner and has radial apertures (23) and annular grooves (22) arranged side by side, the said drum rotating above a fixed cylinder (24) which is subdivided into a suction chamber (26) having a suction port (28), and a blowing chamber (27) having a blower port (40), above which ports the apertures (23) of the drum (17) are displaced, the suction chamber being connected to a vacuum pump in order to apply strong suction in the grooves (22) and retain the cigarettes, and the blowing chamber (27) being connected to a compressor in order subsequently to blow away the cigarettes which are initially retained and which are cut in the longitudinal direction by a series of circular knives (38) placed above the drum. <IMAGE>
