[origin: EP0334996A2] An awning possesses a wall-mounted cloth shaft (5) on which one end of the awning cloth (6) is wound, a falling bar (12) to which the other end of the awning cloth (6) is fastened, and at least two supporting arms (10) which are mounted, at one end, close to the cloth shaft (5) on approximately vertical axles and, at their other end, carry the falling bar (12) via an articulation (29), and which are movable under the action of a spring force upon simultaneous rotation of the cloth shaft (5) from a position close to the wall to a deployed position, and from this position by rotation of the cloth shaft (5) counter to the spring force to the position close to the wall. A stable, in particular flexurally rigid structure is produced in that each supporting arm (10) is formed from a telescope, the outer tube (13) of which is attached to the wall and the inner tube (15) of which carries the falling bar (12), and which can be extended, when unwinding the cloth shaft (5), by means of the spring force acting between the outer tube (13) and the inner tube (15) and arranged inside the same.
