[origin: EP0335079A2] In the first operation of a plug mill (1, 2), the loop (13) is driven over a plug (10) arranged at the head end (5) of a mandrel bar (6) and, after the removal of the plug, guided back. During the advance of the loop (13), a lubricant is applied to the loop inner wall worked by the plug (10) immediately prior to this, through outlet openings (16, 17) on the head part (14) of the mandrel bar (6) with the aid of an inert carrier gas stream. <??>In this way, the lubricant for the working in the second operation of the plug mill is distributed on the inner wall of the loop in the first operation and the lubricant for the third operation (in a reeling mill) is applied in the second operation, the distribution being uniform in each case. There is no delay in processing, i.e. the operations can be carried out directly in succession and there is no pollution by the lubricant. <IMAGE>
