[origin: EP0335301A2] In this method or with this apparatus, the blanks (Z), following their removal from a magazine, are laterally centred, grasped centrally at their rear edge and transported into a forming station (6, 24, 25), in which the central region of the blank (Z) is first of all bent into its final shape (diameter D). A central non-positive or frictional engagement between a transfer means (1, 3, 5) and the blank (Z) is established here in order to achieve reliable guidance even of the already partially bent blank. To transport the blank onward, it is grasped by two lateral transfer devices (2; 8, 9) at the rear edge, in the region which has already been bent to the final shape, and fed to a seam-joining station (48) with accurate guidance of the edges of the blank. <IMAGE>
