Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0337140A2] Supplying packaging material in web form to high-output packaging machines has hitherto been labour-intensive. The packaging material must be fed in the form of reels (13) to the packaging machine and conveyed in the region thereof to a working spindle (11, 12). For this, manual intervention was hitherto required. <??>For the fully mechanical transfer of reels (13) from a reel stock (15) to one of two working spindles (11, 12), use is made of a transport spindle (20) mounted on a transport arm (21). The reels (13) are transferred from said spindle (20) to a working spindle (11, 12) by axially parallel displacement of a driver, namely a pushing sleeve (44) actuated by the transport arm. Furthermore, the transport arm (21) and sleeve strippers (51, 52) mounted thereon are used to strip a reel core (14) of a completely unwound reel (13a) from the working spindle (11, 12). <??>The reels (13) of the packaging material are in this case supplied to the packaging machine completely automatically with the exclusion of manual intervention. <IMAGE>
