Abstract (en)
A water and ink dispenser for a rotary printing press includes a metering roll (16) that is driven by a gear train directly from the printing cylinder (12), the gears (12a,14a,16a) of the gear train each being rotatable on an axis fixed relatively to the axis of rotation of each other gear, in order to avoid chatter and noise in the gear train. A form roll (14) of the device is adjustable in its axial spacing from the printing cylinder (12) and metering roll (16) entirely independently of said gear train, by mounting the Form roll support shaft (58) to be eccentrically rotatable about an axis coincident with the axis (64)) of an idler gear (14a) connecting a drive gear (12a) on the printing cylinder (12) to a driven gear (16a) on the metering roll (16). The object is to eliminate scuffing and gear marking and gear marking of prints.
