A process for the drying and cooling of moist crystalline sugar with the aid of an elongate drum in the form of a dryer/cooler, by means of which the drying and cooling performance can be markedly increased by feeding the moist material into the drying zone in the form of a thin haze occupying the major part of the total cross-section of the drum and against which the drying air flows perpendicularly, while in the cooling zone the sugar particles lifted by scoops trickling down are collected in a fluidised bed arranged beneath the drum axle, and are subjected to intensive cooling.

Es ist ein Verfahren zum Trocknen und Kühlen von feuchtem Kristallzucker mit Hilfe einer langgesteckten Trommel in Form eines Trockners/Kühlers vorgesehen, mit dem die Trocknungs- und Kühlleistung wesentlich gesteigert werden kann, und zwar durch Aufgabe des feuchten Gutes in die Trocknungszone in Form eines den größeren Teil des Gesamtquerschnittes der Trommel einnehmenden dünnen Schleiers, der von der Trocknungsluft senkrecht angeströmt wird, während in der Kühlzone die durch Hubschaufeln angehobenen abrieselnden Zuckerteilchen in einem unterhalb der Trommelachse angeordneten Fluidisierungsbett aufgefangen und einer hohen Kühlwirkung unterworfen werden.
