[origin: EP0338176A1] A wire matrix printhead consists of a rear electromagnet drive assembly (1) and a front needle guide assembly (2) lying opposite a printing surface (3), the electromagnet drive assembly (1) being formed from a number of identical electromagnet folding armature systems and each of the systems having a U-shaped magnetic yoke (10) with folding armature (12) mounted swivellably opposite it. <??>In such a folding armature (12), the mass is reduced, the guidance improved and at the same time the magnetic flux optimised in that the folding armature (12) engages in a recess (22) by means of at least one projection (21) arranged transversely to the longitudinal extension and in that the folding armature (12) is swivellably supported approximately opposite the projection (21). <IMAGE>
