[origin: EP0338401A1] A powder metallurgical process for producing a semifinished product for electrical contacts, consisting of a composite material based on silver together with iron, is described. The composite material consists of 5 to 50% by weight of iron as a first secondary component and of 0 to 5% by weight of a second secondary component consisting of one or more of the metals titanium, zirconium, niobium, tantalum, molybdenum, tungsten, manganese and zinc and/or their oxides and/or their carbides, the remainder being silver as the main component. First, a composite powder or - if possible - an alloy powder is produced from at least two different components of the composite material, of which one is silver or iron, in particular by the spray pyrolysis method, and, if required, this powder is then mixed with the remaining components of the composite material in powder form, compression-moulded and sintered.
