Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0339492A2] Isolating strips for the facultative connection of electrical lines to contacts and to isolating connectors which separate the mutually touching contacts with an isolating tongue are known. An overvoltate protection connector is also known in this context. In order to be able to match individually the overvoltage protection to the circuits which are respectively present and are connected to the isolating strip, to be precise while maintaining the advantages of quick, easy handling of such switching connections, the invention provides that the overvoltage protection connectors be designed in the manner of an isolating connector of such isolating strips (1) and as four-pole networks, two terminals of the four-pole network being provided as contacts on one side and the further two terminals of the four-pole network being provided as contacts on the other side of the isolating tongue (17) of the overvoltage protection connector. The contact pairs of the overvoltage protection connector match the contact pairs (3, 4) of the isolating strip and are dimensioned such that when the overvoltage protection connector is plugged in, its contact pairs are positioned between two contact pairs of the isolating strip and make an electrical contact thereto. The overvoltage protection connectors are inserted from the same narrow side of the isolating strip as the isolating connectors into the said isolating strip, and hence assume their inserted position. Inside the respective overvoltage protection connector there are housed means of overvoltage protection which are electrically connected to its contacts. Out of the overvoltage protection connector there projects its earth terminal, or its earth terminal is accessible as a terminal. <IMAGE>
