[origin: EP0339739A2] Known cooking appliances, with a cooking plate designed in particular as a glass-ceramic plate, have a heating device with at least one light source and an optical filter. The known optical filter is intended to prevent heating devices and the like being visible through the cooking plate. The use of the filter leads to increased manufacturing and assembly outlay. The known filter furthermore does not make any contribution to reducing heat losses and improving the control performance of the cooking appliance. In order to reduce heat losses and improve the control performance of cooking appliances, the light source (9) is surrounded by an essentially non-absorbing optical filter which has a range of a high degree of reflection for wavelengths below approximately 0.73 mu m and, above this wavelength, high transparency. By means of the optical filter according to the invention, the efficiency of cooking appliances can be increased, and the filter can also be fitted subsequently to appliances which are already available. <IMAGE>
