[origin: EP0340167A2] In the method for bending a work piece by a given bending angle, the work piece is initially bent by a somewhat larger angle than the given final bending angle, whereupon the stress on the initially bent work piece (14) is relieved by relieving the load on the bending punch (5). The amount of spring-back is then determined by measuring the effective bending angle following the first bending operation. The bottom plug (22) is then adjusted in such a way that the bending angle resulting from the following, second bending operation corresponds to the given final bending angle minus the amount of spring-back. After the release of the load on the work piece following the second bending operation, the work piece will spring back to such an extent that it has exactly the desired final bending angle. <IMAGE>
