[origin: EP0341344A2] It is known to provide sitting furniture, for example a chair or armchair, consisting essentially of a foot structure, a seat support with seat and a backrest support with backrest, with devices for synchronously coupled swivelling of the seat and the backrest relative to the foot structure in a common direction in each case, but with different swivel angle ranges, in such a way that swivel positions of the seat and the backrest in the range between a working position and a position of rest of the sitting furniture can be adjusted by physical force or by means of a power store. In the new sitting furniture, improved swivellability of the seat and the backrest, additional seat elasticity and lateral seat flexibility are to be made possible. In the sitting furniture, the seat support (5) is attached rigidly, i.e. essentially without swivel movement, to the foot structure (1), while hinge connections are provided in each case between the seat support (5) and the seat (43), on the one hand, and between the seat support (5) and the backrest (45) on the other hand, which hinge connections are formed by rotationally elastic connection elements (5, 15), especially in the form of torsion spring elements.
