Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0342490A2] In known folding machines, which collect the articles trimmed after the first longitudinal fold at a collecting cylinder and subsequently pass them by means of a transport device 2 to a second longitudinal folding apparatus, the collected articles lying on top of one another are perforated at the level of the following second longitudinal fold to secure their position relative to one another. For this purpose, a transfer cylinder of a substantial diameter is arranged downstream from the collecting cylinder, which transfer cylinder has an annular perforating groove, with which a perforating blade of a perforating cylinder applied to the transfer cylinder interacts. Despite the large diameter of the transfer cylinder, the perforation undertaken in the curvature of said diameter tends to come apart when the articles are straightened on the subsequent belt line. The perforating cylinder and the second longitudinal folding apparatus each have to be adjusted individually when being set to the centre of the article, which is troublesome. <??>Due to the fitting of the collecting cylinder with lifting fingers (14) and the displacement of the perforating blade cylinder (22) and the cylinder (23) with the annular perforating groove into the horizontally arranged system of band guides (7, 17, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28), a transfer cylinder can be omitted completely. The perforation takes place in the straightened position; the cylinder with the annular perforating groove has a very small diameter. By the arrangement of the band guide and drive cylinders (18, 19, 20, 21) and of the pair of perforating cylinders (22, 23), together with the second longitudinal folding apparatus (29, 30), in an auxiliary frame (34), which is movable perpendicular to the second longitudinal fold, they can be adjusted synchronously. <??>Folding machines, preferably for the production of book parts. <IMAGE>
