[origin: WO8805888A1] A system for dry ash handling utilizing a bifurcated chute (30) to feed ash into an ash car (42) in one of two tunnels (34) or (36). Upon filling one car (42) to a predetermined amount in the tunnel (34) a diverter gate (32) is operated to begin loading an empty car (42) in tunnel (36). The filled car (42) is moved in tunnel (34) under spray nozzles (48), which spray water to quench smoldering ash in the car (42). The car (42) is then removed from the tunnel (34) covered with a lid (50) and allowed to cool before the car (42) is transported and dumped.
