[origin: EP0343551A2] In the case of floor-mounted heaters for motor vehicles, in order to be able to use standard glow plugs irrespective of the operating voltage (12 volts or 24 volts), without having to resort to upstream resistors for certain operating voltages, a glow plug has two heating rods and three electrical connection contacts so that, depending on the operating voltage, the heating rods can either be connected in parallel (for a 12 volt installation) or connected in series (for example, for a 24 volt installation) and the same electrical (and thermal) output is always achieved. <IMAGE>
