[origin: EP0343581A1] A variable capacity type swash plate compressor has a shaft (100), a swash plate (160), pistons (111) functionally connected with the swash plate (160), and a detector (351) for detecting the reciprocating stroke of the piston (111). The reciprocating stroke of the piston (111) is varied in accordance with an inclining angle of the swash plate (160) in such a manner that a top dead point of the piston (111) at a working chamber (171) defined at one end of the piston (111) is substantially constant. The detector (351) detects the change of the width of the reciprocating stroke of the piston (111) and calculating the capacity of the compressor. The detector (351) employs a plurality of magnets (350) provided on a center portion of the piston (111) and an electromagnetic sensor (351) provided on a cylinder block (101) for facing to the magnets (350).
