[origin: EP0344466A2] Small packages, e.g. cigarette packets (21), are grouped together as a plurality in small containers, so-called cartons (20). The group of cigarette packets (21) is held together by a wrapping (22) made of paper, cardboard or film material. The known wrappings (22) make subsequent application of markings on free surfaces difficult, e.g. on a bottom wall (27) of the cigarette packets (21). <??>In order that at least the bottom walls (27) of the cigarette packets (21) are exposed or accessible, the wrapping (22) is open on at least one side (longitudinal side 28). The cigarette packets (21) are connected to one another and to the wrapping (22) by a bonded strip of film (30) or by individual strips (36, 37). Markings can be applied to the strip of film (29). <??>The package (carton 20) can readily be manufactured automatically and is easy to handle. <IMAGE>
