[origin: EP0344769A2] An apparatus for supporting a jacked-up object is equipped relative to a floor with a bearing surface receiving a base of the object. The bearing surface has a preselectably variable height relative to the floor. It is mounted via a lifting mechanism in at least one frame standing on the floor. The lifting mechanism has a mechanical drive. The mechanical drive is designed as a spindle which rotates about a vertical axis and in the thread flights of which the bearing surface is guided. Guided in the thread flights of the spindle is a nut, on which is supported a sleeve which carries the bearing surface and through which the spindle extends. <IMAGE>
