Abstract (en)
Washing machine or drier with means for determining the moment of inertia of the laundry in relation to the axis of rotation of this drum. The drive motor of the drum, being of the universal type, is supplied with alternating current, and its speed (V) is determined by a phase-control command via a microprocessor which determines the moment of inertia from the value ( theta ) of the phase angle. The microprocessor commands the rotation of the drum at a first acceleration between two speeds V1 and V2 and sums the values theta 1 of the phase angle measured periodically, then commands a second acceleration ramp (21) between the same speeds at a different acceleration and sums the phase angles theta 2 determined periodically. The microprocessor consequently calculates the difference between the two sums. <IMAGE>
