[origin: EP0345511A2] A method is provided wherein betaine is separated eluted from beet molasses using a chromatographic simulated moving bed system having at least three chromatographic columns connected in series. The betaine is eluted during the same cycle as sucrose and rest molasses as a third fraction. The method comprises a molasses feeding and substantially simultaneous water feeding step, at least one water feeding step, a circulation step, and elution of sucrose, betaine and rest molasses fractions from selected columns.
