Abstract (en)

This invention is directed to a novel conducting polymer containing o-methoxyaniline and a process of making same. A process of preparing poly-o-methoxyaniline which comprises inducing o-methoxyaniline to undergo successive oxidative-coupling. The invention also pertains to a process of preparing poly-o-methoxyaniline, the process being selected from the group consisting of: (a) adding a solution of (NH4)2S2O8 in acid to o-methoxyaniline; (b) adding a solution of FeCl3 in acid to o-methoxyaniline; (c) polymerizing o-methoxyaniline in an electrochemical cell as a film deposited on an electrode; (d) polymerizing o-methoxyaniline in an electrochemical cell in a solvent such as dimethylformamide/HCl where the polymer is soluble; and (e) adding a solution of o-methoxyaniline in dimethylformanide to ammonium persulfate in dimethylformamide.
