[origin: EP0345793A2] The invention relates to the inhibition of the propagation of a fire in a building along ventilation ducts. To this end, a lattice of highly heat-conductive material, such as expanded metal, is introduced into the cross-section of the ventilation duct and is able to conduct heat away to the walls of the ventilation duct and hence prevent or delay the breaking-through of the flame. Since such a lattice becomes soiled during the operation of the ventilation plant, it must be easy to exchange and clean. For this reason, it is advisable to introduce the filling in the form of expanded metal spheres laid loose on a strong intermediate level made from transverse struts or perforated sheets, etc. <IMAGE>
