[origin: WO8905711A1] In a process for dressing a grinding wheel (12), a dressing roller (40) is moved along a rough surface (30, 31) of the grinding wheel (12) by a numerically-controlled multicoordinate moving unit (46, 47), thereby producing a predetermined circumferential profile on the grinding wheel (12). In order to simplify the grinding process and in particular to optimize with respect to time a high-speed rough grinding process which produces large quantities of chips in a given time, a circumferential profile is first determined in function of parameters of a grinding process to be carried out on a workpiece (20) by means of the grinding wheel (12) after dressing, and is then produced on the grinding wheel (12) by the dressing roller (40).
