Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0347492A1] A foldable wheelchair is described, having two lateral frames (10a, 10b) which are rotatably connected together by two crossed struts (24a, 24b) lying in planes transverse to the direction of travel. The struts (24a, 24b) are articulated on the frame (10a, 10b) at their lower ends and bear at their upper ends seat tubes (28a, 28b) parallel to the direction of travel which, when the wheelchair is unfolded, are snapped into latching parts (30a, 30b) provided on the frame (10a, 10b). Furthermore, each strut (24, 24b) is connected in an articulated manner to the adjacent frame (10a, 10b) by a rotating bracket (40a, 40b). The position of the points of articulation of the rotating brackets and the length of the rotating brackets, and the cross- section of the latching parts (30a, 30b) which are open at the top and the material of the latter, are selected so that the seat tubes can latch into the latching parts with elastic deformation of the latter. The rotating brackets and the snap-in connection produce a solid connection between seat tubes and frame, so that the unfolded wheelchair is stable in itself. <IMAGE>
