[origin: EP0347568A2] In order to obtain castings of improved wear resistance and simultaneously improved tensile strengths and elongation characteristics in a process for the production of wear-resistant castings from a cast-iron alloy, the castings, which contain ledeburite in the peripheral zones and graphite depositions, being annealed at an austenitising temperature and subsequently quenched, it is proposed that the quenching take place after the casting matrix has been substantially converted into austenite by the annealing, but while the carbides of the alloy are still essentially undecomposed. <IMAGE>
