Machine for cabling threads, comprising a regulator device (or cabling head) (7) in which each working position consists of an assembly DT similar to a double-twist unwinding spindle making it possible to join the two elementary threads (1) and (2) by twisting, one of the threads (1) forming a balloon (1a) surrounding the dish, inside which the bobbin of the second thread is arranged, and the two threads (1,2) being assembled together on the cabling head (7) consisting of an assembly comprising two pulleys (13,14) mounted on a support which, during normal operation, is driven in rotation directly by the balloon (1a) of the thread (1). It is characterised in that it involves associating the cabling head (or regulator)(7) with a low-torque motor (22,23) capable of being activated for a brief period (of the order of two to three seconds) at least at the moment when the installation is started, and then, during normal operation, stopping the said motor, the synchronisation with the progressive offset establishing the helical path of the thread (1a) being ensured by the thread balloon itself. <IMAGE>
