[origin: EP0348645A2] Although isolating switches of fully insulated switchgear are activated when circuit-breakers are open, it is however often necessary that they are also able to switch small currents on and off. Isolating switches of the known type are very slow and arcing-through and interruptions in the isolating path result. Such phenomena which are damaging for the system can be avoided in that a high-speed contact pin, pre-tensioned by springs, ensures accelerated contacting or interruption. <IMAGE>
