The carrier receiving the roll (2) is freely movable, at least to a degree of horizontal freedom of movement, so that an automatic alignment of the core with the clamping sleeve takes place when the clamping sleeves (23) are introduced in the core. In the vertical direction, the force exerted by the tapering end section (41) can be determined by a force measuring device and be used for adjusting a lifting device.
